Brisbane, Queensland, Australia-Reactions to Masterclass in Communities & Social Performance

Masterclass in Communities & Social Performance in Mining at the University of Queensland in Brisbane

We had a very successful Masterclass in Communities & Social Performance in Mining at the University of Queensland in Brisbane recently. There was participation by senior executives and practitioners from BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Vale and OceanaGold among others. Here are some comments from participants:

“It was a great course, and has already changed the way I think about community and social performance.”

“It was great hearing everyone’s hard-earned lessons.”

“Thank you for the course which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was great to discuss CSP examples and the different approaches you and Bruce [Harvey] have used over the years, as well as discussing some of our own issues and needs.”

“I immensely enjoyed attending the social performance masterclass. I learned much from Chris’ knowledge and hands-on experience of social performance in the extractive sector. Chris managed to make the concepts and good practices of social performance very concrete. Additionally, Chris focused on how he managed to solve key dilemmas that he had faced in the field. By doing that, I could augment my own schemata for problem-solving in the various fields of social performance. The masterclass was also developed in a very participatory way, which made me also learn from the examples, experiences and inputs of my peers.”

“Most definitely of value to my work! I wrote half of a notebook of invaluable notes and insights that I got from the course. Thanks!”

“[The course] gave the participants a chance to engage more fully, ask lots of questions and share their own experiences.”

“I would definitely recommend the course to colleagues.”
